Building and running a sound system / promoting events isn’t easy, it is very hard work, a lot harder than what some people think, many sound man, promoters try running before they can walk and that’s why they don’t last long in the business. First you have to plant the seeds, then hopefully later you can reap the rewards. Missile Biography
It all started in 1986 at Murrayside Youth Club in Nacton, Ipswich Town back in de 80′s We all used to go to the youth club to socialise and take part in boxing training, in the early 80′s everyone was into break dancing & Hip Hop, we were known as the ‘Nacton Boys’. It wasn’t long before we all got more and more into sound systems and dancehall, chatting lyrics at the youth club which developed into Mc Clashes competing with other Mc’s from rival youth clubs. ound systems have their roots in Jamaica, first appearing in the Uk in the 60′s. With the growth of the Uk Caribbean community, Candy [later Known as Outlaw] and Skanking came up with the idea to build their own sound system having supported the Mandika Sound System with Daddy P & Papa P [Dj Pat]. Having got the Mckenzie brothers, Candy and the rest of the crew on board, Missile was born and set out to get their own sound equipment to use at their own events.
Governor, one of the Mckenzie brothers came up with the name ‘Missile’. Missile started by promoting under 18′s events all over Ipswich. Soon the sound system and Missile found a regular home at the Ipswich Caribbean Club which was the home of Dancehall in Ipswich. It wasn’t long before Missile became one of the top Dancehall Sound systems in East Anglia. The now famous bass bin boxes were made in the Mckenzie family back yard and thanks go out to this day for the support of Mum & Dad Missile. looking back, Missile as a sound system took it’s members off the street and focused them on positive musical vibes. l sound crew included Governor, Skanking, Candy, Skippa Junior, Polo, Supa, Cobba Youth, Long Legs, Benji, Sam, Sister Kat, Papa P, huggy Ranks, Sister Melody, Major Billy, Mylo Ranking, Papa Mini, Daddy P, Silky, Staggle Head, Echo & Iron who was Missile first selector. The late 80′s into the 90′s saw the explosion of the rave scene for which Missile had the sound equipment, Polo, Echo & Silky led the way for missile, promoting big rave events playing Drum & Bass, Jungle & Garage. Reddas Join Missile in 1988 when blues house parties were the in ting and played lovers rock & revival which gain Missile a lot of support from the older ladies. Tyson &
Lexus brought a different vibe to Missile in the mid 90′s having grown up in London. They were introduce as new selectors in order to develop the business and it resulted in part to missile winning the East Anglia Cup three times in the 90′s, and again in 2006 on the back of this, Missile went international playing Canada, Jamacia, Antigua, Europe & Usa. Over the years Missile without a doubt as become one of the most influential Uk Sound System and has set the tone for to days new generation. Missile has become a professional business, with the Mckenzie brothers continue as directors of the business introducing new talent, promoting major & local events, doing private functions and hiring out Pa / Sound Equipment.. You have to be it for the long term, it takes dedication that’s why we have been very successful in the music business. You also need a strong team behind you such as engineers, deejays, mc’s, security and promotional personnel & organisers but most of all you need supports and dedicated fan’s.
We have taken a teenage hobby a ragga muffin street sound and turned it into a professional business from doing under 18 disco’s, Blues parties to live showcase & conferences, even Princes Charles has used our pa system! Repect goes out to all are fans your support is well appreciated..
